A vibrant, oversized illustrated map of Romania printed on slightly textured, matte paper spread across a light wooden travel desk. Major cities like Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, and Brașov are marked with playful, rounded icons of castles, mountains, and tiny trains. Bright, saturated colors define regions and the winding curves of the Carpathian Mountains. Soft afternoon sunlight pours in from an unseen window, creating gentle highlights along the glossy raised ink of the borders and casting rounded shadows from scattered souvenirs: a small painted ceramic mug, a whimsical keychain of a tiny castle, and a folded boarding pass. Photographic realism with a whimsical, energetic composition, shot from a slightly elevated angle with sharp focus throughout, creating an inviting, adventurous mood for a Romanian travel blog homepage.

Before Romania

Honestly, I’m both extremely nervous and extremely excited for this trip. I have traveled to a lot of places in the world (Colombia, Thailand, Canada, etc…) but I have never spend any time in Europe. I’m hoping to learn all about Romania’s culture and I also hope to be able to improve my skills as a Social Worker while traveling as well. I’m nervous because this is my first time in a country where I don’t speak the language. I know Romanian has Latin roots so I’m hoping to be able to at least barely understand things since I am fluent in Spanish. Honestly, I think the biggest skill I want to work on is my ability to do things in an uncomfortable environment. I know this will all be new for me and that I will probably be uncomfortable due to the change but I am hoping to be able to make the best of it.

Budapest

Budapest was amazing overall. I definitely need to go back someday and fully explore the city. I felt like there wasn’t enough time to fully grasp all of it. Traveling here was exactly as expected. Nothing has really surprised me other than the beauty of Europe. I was obsessed with just about any architectural structure that I saw during this entire trip. I already felt my view of the world changing as we toured Budapest. I can’t wait to go back someday.

Romania

Romania was incredible. It had it’s challenges but overall, I feel like I really grew as a person. Seeing other cultures and learning about the way other’s are helped in another country has reminded me of why I got into social work in the first place. I want to help people as best I can using whatever resources I can gather. I am definitely planning on coming back next year and I am hoping to be able to help more and more each time.
